R.L. Elliott Enterprises Inc. is a family-owned and operated land clearing, logging, and forestry company headquartered in Ashland, Virginia. Founded in 1989 by Randall Elliott, the company has grown from a one-man tree care operation into one of Central Virginia’s most experienced and capable land clearing and logging contractors — with a full fleet of heavy equipment, a dedicated team, and over 35 years of work behind us.

We hold a Virginia Class A Contractor’s License, are SWAM certified, and are members of the Virginia Loggers Association, Master Loggers, and registered with the Virginia Department of Forestry (VDOF). We’re not a franchise, not a startup, and not a side hustle — this is our family’s livelihood and legacy.

Our Story

Randall Elliott served in the United States Air Force for many years, stationed in Europe before being brought back to Virginia. After his military service, he went to work for a local tree company — but it didn’t take long for him to realize he could do it better on his own.

In 1989, with nothing more than a truck and some chainsaws, Randall started R.L. Elliott Enterprises as a tree care business. He did everything himself — climbing, cutting, hauling, billing. One customer at a time, one job at a time, he built a reputation for showing up, doing the work right, and treating people fairly.

For the next 28 years, R.L. Elliott operated as a tree care company, serving homeowners, businesses, and utilities across Central Virginia. Randall earned the trust of the community and built the kind of name recognition that only comes from decades of consistent, quality work.

Over the last 10 years, the company evolved. What started as tree care grew into a full-service land clearing, logging, and biomass operation. We added heavy equipment — excavators, forestry mulchers, horizontal grinders, tub grinders, logging equipment — and expanded into large-scale clearing projects, commercial timber harvesting, and wood waste processing. Today, we clear land, harvest timber, process debris into mulch and wood chips, and handle projects ranging from residential lots to 100+ acre tracts.

The business changed, but the values never did. We still show up, do the work right, and treat people fairly. That’s what Randall built this company on, and that’s how we run it today.

Our Team

A company is only as good as its people. We’re proud of the team we’ve built — experienced operators and drivers who take pride in their work and make the operation run safely and efficiently every day.

Shop & Processing Crew

Our shop location in Ashland is where we process wood waste into mulch and wood chips for wholesale distribution. Our processing crew includes Billy Samuels, Jose, and Franco — experienced operators who keep our grinders running and our mulch production on schedule.

Logging Crew

Our logging operation runs with a tight, skilled crew: Austin on the log loader, Robert “Tallpine” running the cutter, and Tim on the skidder. These guys work together like a machine — efficient, safe, and productive. They’re the reason we can handle 100+ acre timber harvests and deliver results that meet the standards our name is built on.

Transport

Getting logs to the mill and equipment to the job site takes reliable drivers. “Mad Dog” and “Radar” are two of our most trusted drivers, with Randall himself filling in behind the wheel when needed. When your timber needs to get to the sawmill on time, these are the guys making it happen.
